Exponent Ropes Course Technician

Our Ropes Course Technician training offers the practical skills, technical insight and theoretical background to lead groups on a specific ropes course, provided a Ropes Course Rescuer is available for high-element evacuations if necessary. The emphasis is on program safety. This training is usually part of the Ropes Course Rescuer training, but can be offered separately. Depending on the initial competences of the trainees and the nature of the ropes course, this training takes 2 to 6 days.

Ropes Course Technician training covers the following subjects:

  • general introduction to program safety and safety on ropes courses technical understanding of the ropes course and equipment
  • pre-flight check of the course
  • spotting
  • knots for use by participants and/or leaders
  • belay techniques for activities on high elements
  • self-belay on high ropes course elements
  • equipment care
  • daily ropes course maintenance

The training combines hands-on practice with presentations on theoretical background information. Participants receive customized course notes.

Trainees who pass the test receive a Exponent Ropes Course Technician Certificate, consistent with the EN requirements for the Instructor (EN 15567-2(2008), Sports and Recreational Facilities - Ropes Courses – Part 2: Operation Requirements). The certificate remains valid for 2 years.
