All rope evacuation training complies with legislation with regard to Temporary Work at Heights, as outlined in Directive 2001/45/EC, and Personal Protective Equipment, as outlined in Directive 89/656/EC.

Rope rescue for rope access workers and work at heights

Work at height legislation requires that rope access workers are trained to rescue themselves and colleagues if need be. Our training in rope evacuation takes over where rope access training stops. It requires that all participants are familiar with their PPE and able to self-belay. Because these people only exceptionally perform rescues, the techniques taught remain 'low-tech' and make maximal use of the equipment that participants are accustomed to.

Rope rescue for emergency services

To some extent dependent on the nature of their physical environment, emergency services are increasingly confronted with calls where traditional means no longer suffice. That is where rope evacuation comes in. Rope evacuation training for intervention teams starts with rope access or requires that participants are thoroughly familiar with basic rope techniques and able to self-belay, as demonstrated by IRATA 1, IMP 1, RED 1 or equivalent certificates. This training means a next step in industrial rope techniques: as the reference weight shifts from 100kg to 200kg, some commonly used equipment and techniques become inadequate. Of great importance is the efficient rigging of reliable anchors, often in environments that aren't set up for this.
